Mark Dorfman, MD

Mark S. Dorfman, M.D. is a board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist. He specializes in the surgical correction of strabismus (misalignment of the eyes) and blocked tear ducts. In addition, he has extensive experience in treating premature infants (retinopathy of prematurity), amblyopia, eyelid pathology, genetic malformations of the visual system, and in providing comprehensive pediatric ophthalmic examinations. 

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Dorfman joined Eye Surgery Associates in 1994. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Cum Laude from Albany Medical College in 1989. He completed his medical internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Ophthalmology Residency at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Dorfman then went on to do a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Northwestern University in Chicago. 

Dr. Dorfman has been involved in numerous local and statewide programs, to help to protect our children’s visual development. In Broward County, he participated in the Vision Steering Committee of the Broward County School Board, and he is a current board member of the Broward County Pediatric Society. One year after coming to Florida, he participated in the Child and Adolescent Health Care Committee of the Broward County Medical Association. 

Dr. Dorfman was Chief of Surgery at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for six years and is now the senior pediatric ophthalmologist at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. 

In 2002, he was the President of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology and led the public awareness poster campaign for the early diagnosis of retinoblastoma, the most common intraocular tumor in childhood. In this same year, the Society produced a PSA, documenting the dangers of BB gun-related eye injuries. Since his presidency, Dr. Dorfman has remained on the board of the state society and is actively involved in legislative bills that affect visual development. 

Dr. Dorfman has lectured extensively throughout the country, and he has been listed year after year in several magazines, as one of our top doctors in South Florida. He has written articles that have been published in both pediatric and ophthalmology journals. He has been a member of the following societies: American Medical Association, Alpha Omega Alpha Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Florida Society of Ophthalmology, Broward County Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, Broward County Ophthalmology Society, Miami Ophthalmology Society, American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Pediatrics, Broward County Pediatric Society, and the Greater Miami Pediatric Society. 

In 2005, Dr. Dorfman became the managing partner at Eye Surgery Associates. He is married to Alisa Dorfman. If he is not working at the office, Dr. Dorfman can be found at the ball fields in Weston, where he coaches his three sons in baseball, football and basketball. Dr. Dorfman currently accepts new patients at all three of our locations Pembroke Pines, Weston, and Hollywood.
